Review | Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad
Full disclosure: KVD dominates my makeup stash. If you haven't tried any of her products yet, you need to run to Sephora and bless thyself with her Tattoo Liner ($19). This eyeliner is loyal. It doesn't go anywhere, no matter how many times GoT rips your heart out of your chest and does the irish jig on it for giggles. Because you're a glutton for punishment.
KVD's new Shade + Light Eye Contour Quads ($26) are no different. The formula is silky, highly pigmented, and the kicker is that they are all matte shades. I once read somewhere that matte shades are harder to work with, but don't let curse you the way it cursed me. It's not true! Matte shades are incredibly versatile + blendable. There are four different palette choices that are meant to be compliment different eye colors. Sage for brown eyes, Plum for green eyes, Rust for blue eyes, and Smoke is for red eyes. JK. Seriously though, under no circumstances should anyone feel limited by these. They're simply suggestions! For example, I have brown eyes, but I love Rust for a warm eye look à la late season allergies. So go for the colors that speak to your soul~
The largest pan is base color, followed by define, contour, and highlight being the lightest color at the top. Across the board, these eyeshadows are just what'd you'd expect from Kat Von D. Beautiful, silky, and pigmented. Most of these swatches are 1-2 layers, and I used my finger to lightly apply. Because the powders are so finely milled, they're easily blended and will stick to whatever primer you apply over. I love the idea of packing one of these for an overnight trip and applying with your fingers! A soft blown out look with the define/contour colors of each palette, followed by a gentle pat in the inner corners with the highlight shade is how I tend to apply mine. The colors also work great with other shadows I already have since they're so blend-able without getting into the territory of muddy. I'm getting into that age box where shimmery eyeshadows scream "desperately holding on to my youth" so if you're with me, give these babies a shot. You just might like the way you look. (men's warehouse. kinda.)
