Review | Glossier Balm Dot Com Trio

Review | Glossier Balm Dot Com Trio

They've done it again. After converting Qian and I into devout fans last year, Glossier releases a new trio of their Balm Dot Com ($30 for a pack of three). Somehow turning something as serviceable as a salve into a covet-worthy token, they've released three new scents— Rose, Mint, and Cherry.

Come to Daddy.

Come to Daddy.

The packaging arrives in typical Glossier form. Pastel and matte, flanked with nearly bare-faced ladies and a sans serif font. (Bonus: more stickers.) They come in .5fl oz. tubes, which is a thoughtful addition after Qian pointed out that the Coconut BDC packed .06fl oz. less product than the original. The tubes are pocketable and the size of a modest pickle spear. If you were to slide one into your front pocket, you'd still have room to accommodate a woodland imp. In terms of formula, it remains the same— thick, waxy, "stay put," and emollient.

The scents are mild, but still a welcome addition. I grabbed at mint first because of my inherent loyalty towards Burt's Bees and it's peppermint overture. Glossier's is more restrained. It reminds me Orbit's Sweet Mint gum. Mentholated, and a touch creamy. Rose would be more aptly named "moscato." It has the rose top notes, but a cloying bubble gum finish. Cherry has the most olfactory potency. Think Kool-Aid powder swirling into the air when you dump it out of the jug. I licked a blob off my finger like a hungry goblin and it tasted like a tube of Lip Smackers. After about an hour of wear, the scent dissipates, for better or for worse.

The biggest addition to this batch of balms is that two are tinted. Rose has an blush tint that is nearly imperceptible on skin. Cherry has a freezer pop cherry (duh) tone. It's still subtle enough where a Mennonite, in theory, could sneak it on and suffer no consequences. Color-shy blokes could get away with a swipe of this, too, in case you were wondering.

The trio is available now on Glossier's website*, and come packed with a pink bubble wrap pouch. Keep one at your desk, one at your nightstand and one in your pocket. Dry patches and problematic elbows will be a thing of the past.
