New Kat Von D Lock-It Full Brush Collection Review
There's a distinct level of glamor in things that look too dangerous for human contact. Corsets (rebranded as "waist trainers" around 2013) got their appeal from the alarming proportions it would impose on the human body. Bewitching! Wallet chains gained popularity because they implied you could wrap them around your fist should a fight suddenly break out. Conical studs later made their way to mainstream fashion on shoes, lapels, and sunglasses. This trend put literal spokes perilously close to Achilles' heels, throats, and scleras across the nation.
The same formula of charm comes into play for Kat Von D's new Lock-It Brushes: pointy, witchy, unreasonably long. Stylized treachery takes a place in my kit.
From L to R:
Lock-It Setting Powder Brush #20 ($38)
Lock-It Precision Powder Brush #25 ($30)
Lock-It Edge Foundation Brush #10 ($34)
Lock-It Edge Concealer Brush #40 ($24)
The handles are highly reflective, inky, and come to a long stabby stiletto point. Remember Christian Louboutin's nail polish handles? They're like that. If you were to show one to a stranger in a dim setting, they would at first assuming you were attempting to murder them. There is also a considerate counterweight in the handle that feels hearty, satisfying, and more daggery in the hand.
The bristles were all carefully considered additions, too. The two "edge" brushes in this line have a dense chisel tip that I haven't seen before. The two flat surfaces on either side of the edge provide the blending ability of flat-top buffer. The edge itself adds precision for those who find standard kabuki brushes too unwieldy for cream contour or highlight.
The two powder brushes are fluffy with a considerable bend which makes them best for setting the face rather than building coverage. #20 would be ideal for an all over powder. #25 would excel under the eyes. The brushes end up feeling equal parts diabolical (in appearance) and sturdy (in construction). They could presumably last you through all nine of your lives.
